Sorghum
Owner, Jason Tarwater, at the ripe age of eleven years old, made a promise to his Grandfather, Jack C. Tarwater, to continue the family tradition of growing and producing sorghum molasses. After Jack’s passing, that promise was realized. Jason was able to resurrect the old tradition with the belief that he is simply taking his turn to keep the tradition going and, ultimately, pass it on to the next generation of Tarwaters.
Sawmill
Preparing for retirement from his career in law enforcement, Jason purchased a sawmill with the intention of repairing the old shed, barn, and smokehouse that sit on the old Tarwater Homeplace property. He placed the sawmill next to Chapman Highway and that was the best advertising he never knew he needed. Long story short, a small business was born and the barn still isn’t fixed.
Kiln
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the availability of dry dimensional lumber dropped and price skyrocketed. To provide a more affordable option to our community, a vacuum kiln for drying lumber and mantles was added to our operation and has become a workhorse on the farm.
